Stretching for thousands of kilometers, the Chilean Andes boast some of the best ski resorts in all of South America. In the central region, just over an hour from Santiago, you'll find Farellones, El Colorado, Valle Nevado, La Parva, and Portillo. Farellones is ideal for those who want to learn to ski or simply enjoy a day of fun in the snow park. El Colorado and La Parva have slopes for all levels, but they are especially good for beginners. Valle Nevado and Portillo, on the other hand, are ideal for those with more experience. When to go: In the central region, the ski season typically begins between May and June and ends in August or September.
