Araucanía / Los Ríos / Los Lagos
Where volcanoes meet the sea. Immerse yourself in the nature and culture of the south.
In southern Chile, nature reigns in its most elemental form: volcanoes, coastal forests, and untamed waters. These lands offer much more than breathtaking landscapes: they invite you to immerse yourself in the local culture, in wellness rituals, and in characterful stays that reflect the region’s wild spirit.
Destination attractions
Lake Llanquihue and surrounding area
In the heart of the Los Lagos Region, Lake Llanquihue steals the show. The German colonial heritage remains vibrant and coexists with contemporary life in its main attractions, such as Puerto Varas, Frutillar, and Llanquihue itself. All of these towns border the lake, offering breathtaking views of undisturbed beauty, where volcanoes rise majestically. It's worth taking a car or a bicycle and exploring the entire area to discover stunning sites like the Petrohué Falls, Lake Todos los Santos, or even the Andean crossing to Bariloche. How to get there: take a direct flight to Puerto Montt from Santiago and, seasonally, also from Concepción and Balmaceda. When to go: ideally between October and April to avoid the coldest and rainiest season. What to see: the cities bordering the lake (Puerto Varas, Frutillar, Llanquihue, Puerto Octay, Cascadas), the Osorno volcano, the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park, the city of Puerto Montt and the Alerce Andino National Park and the coastal area of the region towards Los Muermos, among other places of interest.
